Working Principle
The S70101-NA receives AC power from single-phase or three-phase mains, rectifies it to a DC bus voltage, and drives the connected servo motor through its IGBT power stage using high-frequency PWM. The drive continuously reads feedback from the motor’s encoder or resolver and executes closed-loop current, velocity, and position control algorithms. The onboard CANopen and EtherCAT interfaces enable real-time communication with the host controller for coordinated multi-axis motion.
Installation Requirements
- Mount inside a closed switchgear cabinet free from conductive or corrosive materials
- Use non-painted (conductive) mounting plates for proper EMC grounding
- Ensure adequate clearance above and below the amplifier for unimpeded ventilation
- Keep the ambient temperature within the permitted range (0°C to 40°C, up to 45°C with derating)
- Connect power supply with appropriate fusing (Class RK5, CC, J, or T; max 6 A time-delay fuse)
- Use 60°C or 75°C copper wire only; use Class 1 wire only
- Tightening torque for field wiring terminals X0, X8, X9: 0.7–0.8 Nm (6.20–7.08 lbf·in)
- Use shielded cables for motor and feedback connections with shields connected directly to the amplifier
- Do not mount devices producing strong magnetic fields directly beside the amplifier
Usage Notes
- Verify motor compatibility using the drive’s motor database before commissioning
- Run the autotuning procedure after mechanical installation to optimize servo loop parameters
- If STO is not required, connect STO1-ENABLE and STO2-ENABLE directly to +24 VDC
- Monitor heat sink temperature during continuous operation (default alarm threshold: 80°C)
- Do not disconnect motor or power cables while the drive is energized
- Use the MMC storage card to back up parameters before firmware updates
- Consult the S70101 instruction manual for detailed fault codes and parameter settings
- Branch circuit protection must be provided in accordance with the National Electrical Code and local codes
