Working Principle
The S64001 receives motion commands from a controller through analog inputs, digital I/O, serial communication or SERCOS. It measures motor position and speed through the feedback device and adjusts the output current to the servo motor. The drive continuously regulates torque, speed and position to minimize error between the commanded value and actual motor state. Internal control loops include current control, speed control and position control. The drive also monitors bus voltage, temperature and fault conditions to protect the motor and system.
Installation Requirements
- Install in a ventilated industrial control cabinet.
- Maintain adequate clearance around the heat sink.
- Use properly sized power, motor and feedback cables.
- Separate signal cables from power and motor cables.
- Ground the drive and motor according to Kollmorgen requirements.
- Verify input voltage matches the S64001 nameplate rating.
- Configure feedback type and motor parameters before enabling the drive.
- Use Kollmorgen setup software for commissioning and tuning.
Precautions for Use
- Only qualified personnel should install, commission or maintain the drive.
- Do not exceed the rated voltage, current or temperature limits.
- Verify motor and feedback compatibility before operation.
- Do not disable safety or protection functions without proper authorization.
- Back up drive parameters before replacement or maintenance.
- Investigate fault codes before restarting the system.
- Avoid installation in environments with excessive dust, moisture or corrosive gases.
- Refer to the official Kollmorgen SERVOSTAR 600/S640 documentation for wiring, parameters and troubleshooting.
