Working Principle
All objects emit infrared energy proportional to their surface temperature. The OS550 sensing head collects this infrared radiation through its optical system and converts it into an electrical signal. The electronics module processes the signal, applies emissivity correction, and calculates the target temperature. The measured value is displayed on the LCD and transmitted through analog outputs, alarm outputs, and RS232 communication where available. Because the device does not use mechanical choppers or vibrating components, it can be mounted in any orientation without performance loss.
Installation Requirements
Mount the sensing head so it has a clear view of the target surface
Avoid steam, dust, smoke, or obstructions in the optical path
Maintain the correct distance-to-spot ratio for the selected model
Use the correct emissivity setting for the target material
Install the electronics enclosure within 0 to 50 °C ambient temperature
Provide 8 to 24 Vdc power according to the wiring diagram
Use shielded cables for analog and communication signals
Ground the system according to OMEGA recommendations
Configure alarm setpoints and output scaling before operation
Usage Precautions
Do not look directly into the laser beam
Verify emissivity settings for accurate measurement
Keep the lens clean and free of oil, dust, or condensation
Do not exceed the specified ambient temperature limits
Use the water-cooled jacket option for high-temperature environments
Avoid measuring through glass or transparent plastics
Confirm analog output scaling matches the receiving instrument
Replace only with genuine OMEGA OS550 or approved OSAO-series replacements
Refer to the official OMEGA manual for final wiring and accuracy data
