- Transient Response: Meets stringent IEEE and IEC standards for dynamic voltage recovery.
- Reliability: Exceptional Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF) due to solid-state components.
Material Composition
Constructed with high-grade silicon steel laminations for the exciter stator and rotor, copper windings with Class H or F insulation, and a rugged cast-iron or steel housing.
Structural Characteristics
- Form Factor: Direct-coupled to the main generator shaft.
- Rotating Rectifier Assembly: Features a robust rotating diode wheel mounted directly on the rotor.
- Static Exciter Stator: Stationary field winding that induces AC voltage in the rotating armature.
Working Principle
The AVR controls the DC current to the stationary exciter stator. This creates a magnetic field that induces an AC voltage in the rotating exciter armature. The rotating rectifier assembly converts this AC to DC, which is fed directly to the main generator’s rotor field winding, establishing the main magnetic flux.
Installation Requirements
- Ensure precise shaft alignment between the exciter and the main generator.
- Verify the air gap and mechanical clearance according to the installation manual.
- Connect the AVR control wiring using shielded cables to prevent electromagnetic interference.
Usage Precautions
- Never operate the generator with an open field circuit to prevent dangerous voltage spikes.
- Regularly inspect the rotating rectifier diodes for open or shorted conditions.
- Monitor the exciter bearing temperatures and vibration levels during routine maintenance.
