Working Principle
The RH916YY senses the moisture content in the surrounding air using its internal humidity sensing element. The sensed humidity is converted into an electrical signal by the onboard conditioning circuit. The sensor then outputs a proportional 4 mA to 20 mA current signal that represents the measured relative humidity. The 4 mA lower limit typically corresponds to 0 percent RH, and the 20 mA upper limit corresponds to 100 percent RH, unless otherwise configured. The receiving instrument reads this current signal and displays or controls the process humidity value.
Installation Requirements
- Install the sensor in a location that represents the humidity to be measured.
- Avoid direct exposure to condensation, standing water, or chemical sprays unless the application specifically allows it.
- Mount the sensor securely using the flange interface.
- Ensure adequate air circulation around the sensing area.
- Connect the 4 mA to 20 mA output to a compatible analog input channel.
- Supply 12 V DC to 36 V DC power with correct polarity.
- Verify cable routing to prevent mechanical damage.
- Allow stabilization time after installation before relying on measurements.
- Perform calibration checks according to plant procedures.
Precautions for Use
- Do not exceed the 36 V DC supply voltage.
- Do not expose the sensor to conditions beyond its IP67 rating for extended periods.
- Avoid contamination of the sensing element by oil, dust, or corrosive chemicals.
- Verify wiring polarity before powering the sensor.
- Use shielded cable if the installation environment has high electrical noise.
- Perform periodic calibration to maintain measurement accuracy.
- Do not use the sensor for safety instrumented functions unless formally qualified for that purpose.
- Inspect the housing and cable regularly in harsh environments.
