- Backplane edge connector
- DIN-rail or chassis mount
- Working Principle:
- During normal operation, the module trickle-charges the lithium battery from the 24VDC backplane via an internal regulator. When main power fails, the battery instantly takes over (via a diode OR circuit) and supplies 5VDC to the CPU’s RAM and clock circuit. The switchover happens in less than 1ms, which is faster than the CPU’s RAM retention time, so no data is lost. When power returns, the module switches back to backplane power and resumes charging the battery.
- Installation Requirements:
- Install in any IC693 slot adjacent to the CPU (recommended)
- No external wiring needed — powered entirely from backplane
- Insert module fully until connector seats
- Replace battery every 5 years or when Battery Low LED turns amber
- Usage Precautions:
- Replace battery immediately when Battery Low LED activates — data loss will occur within days
- Use only CR123A lithium batteries — do not use alkaline or rechargeable
- Do not remove the module while the CPU is running — causes immediate power loss to RAM
- Verify LED status periodically — green = OK, amber = replace soon
- Do not hot-swap — power down chassis before removal
