Material Composition Multilayer FR4 UL94 V0 PCB, serial transceiver chip, FPGA protocol parsing chip, high-speed optocoupler array, TVS surge diodes, decoupling capacitors, gold-plated DB25 connector, gold-plated backplane edge connector, flame retardant plastic front panel.
Structural Features Standard eurocard plug-in form factor matching IPC620 rack slot. DB25 connector and LED indicators are mounted on front panel. DIP switch group for serial parameter selection is protected by dust cover. Internal isolation barrier separates backplane circuit and external serial signal circuit. Anti-keying notch prevents mis-insertion into analog I/O module slots. Differential serial traces maintain consistent impedance for RS422 long-distance transmission.
Working Principle When the CPU sends register data to the module through I/O Link bus, the FPGA chip formats binary values into user-defined ASCII character strings and transmits through the serial transceiver. When ASCII characters arrive from external instruments, the module receives the serial stream, identifies start and end delimiters, extracts numeric data and converts the ASCII string into binary register values, then packs valid data into I/O Link frames for the CPU. Timeout monitoring circuit triggers fault flag if expected response string is not received within set time window.
Installation Requirements Power down rack before setting DIP switch serial parameters. Use shielded serial cable matched with selected physical layer standard. Set identical baud rate, parity and data format on gateway and connected ASCII device. Route serial cable away from high voltage AC power cable bundles. Test character sending and receiving after power restoration before formal commissioning.
Usage Notes This module does not implement Modbus protocol, it only handles raw ASCII character streams. Do not connect RS232 single-ended signal to multi-drop RS422 bus without level conversion. DB25 connector pin contamination causes intermittent character loss and garbled text. Do not short transmit and receive signal pins on the serial port.
