Working Principle The controller boots from internal storage into the operating system. It controls all PXI/PXIe modules in the chassis through the backplane PCI Express bus. User programs written in LabVIEW or TestStand call NI drivers to configure instruments, read measurements, and output stimulus. Peripheral ports connect to external displays, keyboards, networks, and GPIB instruments. The chassis fan provides forced-air cooling.

Installation Requirements

  • Insert into PXI chassis system controller slot with chassis power off
  • Connect monitor, keyboard, mouse, and network cable
  • Chassis rack mount with adequate ventilation space
  • Ambient temperature between 0 °C and +55 °C
  • Install device drivers and application software after power-up
  • Connect chassis protective ground
  • Leave sufficient clearance at front for fan intake and exhaust

Precautions

  • Do not remove controller while chassis power is on
  • Do not block chassis ventilation openings
  • Use anti-static precautions when handling the board
  • Replace system cooling filter periodically
  • Back up system image before major software updates
  • Store spare units in anti-static packaging
  • Hard disk is sensitive to shock; avoid dropping chassis during transport
  • Ensure proper rack airflow for reliable operation
